For User in UserList for RDS

I am trying to loop through the userList with DXL however we are running off RDS and the normal for user in userList function does not seem to have an accurate list (3 out of 200+ users show up).

I also need to be able to run for group in groupList.

Does anyone know if there are undocumented functions for this that relate to RDS?

Thanks,

Hmm without having access to an LDAP enabled installation, did you try something like:

User u = null
for u in userList "*" do {
   string s = u.name
   print s "\n"
}

Group g = null
for g in groupList "*" do {
   string s = g.name
   print s "\n"
}

These functions (userList, groupList) relate to the "filter" setting in the manage user dialog of DOORS and take a filter string as a parameter. I think "*" might give you all users/groups. Maybe this helps, Regards, Mathias

Never dealt with RDS, but I see these are valid for RDS:

for NameUser in userList (SomeString) // Finds all users except Administrator
for NameGroup in grouplist(SomeString) // Finds all groups in the database
for NameGroup in ldapGroupsForUser(User,SomeString) // Groups associated with that user
for NameGroup in ldapGroupsForUser(User) // ditto

Hopefully someone will tell us what "SomeString" is.

Sorry guys, neither of those worked. It returns no users.

I found a way around it for now to do what I need to do but it would still be nice to know how to get a list of the users and groups in RDS.

Thanks for the help,
Steve

Hmm it is supposed to work, since that is how the Manage Users/Groups dialog itself does it. Did you try an empty filter string? Regards, Mathias

Just wanted to open this thread/sore again with a related question.

I'm on DOORS 9.3, don't have rights to manage users or groups or such. Curious thing is that when I try to get a list of all groups using the groupList constant, I only see about 10. Now, I know there are many (many!) more; I know that a certain group does exist, because I can check it using

existsGroup("ABC")

. This call, however, takes up to 15 seconds to return an answer, as does the

Group g = find("ABC")

call so not something you want to do too often when starting up DOORS (in a formalFiles script, for example).

Of the groups in groupList, nine of these groups I belong to, the tenth is not in my Groups list in the Options. So it does not seem to be a matter of groupList only containing the groups I belong to.

Anyone an idea as to what gives?

Thanks,
Marcel

To be honest, I have no idea what "gives" here. My testing with DOORS and RDS has shown inconsistent results and I have so far failed to nail what is exactly going on.

However, I have written a script that forces DOORS to read all RDS users and groups. These are stored in configuration files and are then available in the dialog for viewing. The lists can be updated at any time.

The script can be tweaked to speed it up by providing strings/characters that you know all users or groups begin with.

I would be very interested to know if anyone can figure out why different users would get different results.

I found that if you do repeated queries that results vary. I can also repeat this is the GUI interface (DOORS 9.6.1); has anyone see this same issue?

User u = null
for u in userList "*" do {
   string s = u.name
   print s "\n"
}

Group g = null
for g in groupList "*" do {
   string s = g.name
   print s "\n"
}
